Cha•ris (kā′ris)
The word CHARIS (pronounced “care us”) is Greek for grace. Grace is undeserved support or acts of kindness. In brief, it means that God desires the best for us so He unconditionally provides what we do not have and cannot supply for ourselves. The word CHARIS is the inspiration for CHARIS Counseling Services of Northeast Michigan.
CHARIS was started in 2015 the outpatient counseling practice of Rachel Achatz, LPC. After managing Charis as a group practice for six years, Rachel has returned to individual private practice in order to provide specialized counseling services to couples and families.
Rachel is passionate about facilitating growth in people and helping them experience the hope, peace, and joy that God desires for them. She believes that we are all searching for something to satisfy a deep longing to fill the emptiness inside. We can try to fill it relationships, alcohol, drugs, sex, self-fulfillment, but ultimately the only thing that will satisfy the deepest longings of the soul are a relationship with God. Augustine prayed, "You have made us for yourself, 0 Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you."
Rachel utilizes this worldview as a foundation to provide caring, compassionate, and competent mental health treatment. However, she respects the dignity and worth of all people, and their right to privacy, their right to their own beliefs, and their right to make their own decisions. Therapeutic interventions are client-centered. She desires each person to experience quality treatment that moves people towards their goals. She offers services to all people regardless of age, color, culture, disability, ethnicity, national origin, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, marital status, or socioeconomic status.
